Role
Team of two designers, UX researcher, a technical project manager, and a development team
Mission
Create a cohesive authentication experience across products and platforms that meets new requirements
Platform
Responsive web
Overview
Bushel operates a suite of products that were previously using a variety of different authentication flows. This caused confusion for users and inconsistency across in our brand experience. It also made it more difficult for our development team to manage and maintain the login systems for each product. There was also the addition of new requirements for authentication with the addition of money movement to the platform.
Goals
provide a consistent and seamless authentication experience across all of Bushel's products
simplify the login process for users with SSO
make it easier for the development team to manage and maintain the authentication systems
meet the new requirements for authentication related to money movement on the platform and SSO requirements
allow for either Bushel product branding or white-labeled branding, depending on the needs of the product
improve security by implementing two-factor authentication
allow users to create and account using an email address
Authentication Redesign
UX Research & Ideation
I worked alongside another designer and UX researcher to develop our research plan. We had very little time available with our researcher, so we decided to look heavily into competitive analysis and existing research around authentication best practices to inform our designs. Based on our findings we developed wireframes and user task flows.
Design System Application
We building out our designs using our new design system. This streamlined the design process by reducing redundant design decisions and component build out. Additionally, the design system allowed for faster prototyping and iteration, which allowed us to quickly test and implement new solutions.
Solution
The team implemented a web responsive authentication flow that allowed for either Bushel product branding or white-labeled branding. The new flow included a single sign-on system and two-factor authentication. Users can now create accounts using email addresses, resulting in improved user satisfaction and better management of the platform. We also created designs for emails to users for account update information and built out an interface to allow users to edit their account information. The solution provided necessary updates to the system while maintaining a cohesive brand experience across products and platforms.
